Similar to Open Studio, our drop in printmaking days provide a time for anybody in the community to come in to our space, and work with local printmaker Linda Oickle to make fantastic prints! Play with colours, textures, paint, ink, paper, and a printing press! Check our calendar for dates and times.
No experience necessary!
Free, but donations are always accepted.
Next Collograph printing day: TBD
Bring your own flat-ish objects, or use the collection of items available on site. We will ink these items directly, so be aware that ink will leave permanent stains sometimes. Then, we print these "found" items to make single or combined shapes/designs/details.
Items to look for include: stencils, leaves, branches, combs, hammers, tools, old flat toys, or cloth. Mostly anything with a raised design will work, or we can make it work!
Collograph can also be used to "pull" an image from objects such as iron grates, trivets (especially old fanciful ones).
Next Monoprinting day: TBD
Mono printing is done using a painterly approach with inks as the medium. The ink is rolled or brushed directly to a glass or plexi plate, then manipulated using brushes. Wiping the ink away with cloth or tissue, the bristles of a brush, or Q-Tips, removes the ink, thus making a design.
For example, a plate rolled completely in black ink can then be manipulated to make the design of a Snow owl, by removing ink in a manner that creates the desired shapes.
Any colours can be used alone or in combination.
Open Print Day
Next Open Print day: To be announced.
A fun day to explore techniques used in the previous workshops, to develop new techniques of your own, or to print plates already carved (linocut) by the instructors.
Next Linocut printing day: To be announced
Using a special tool, designs can be carved out of a block, or another form of Linocut material. The carved design is then rolled with ink, and then pressed onto the paper.
This method can be used to make a series of identical prints, where each pull is the same. This is a perfect method for making identical greeting cards, for example.
Pre-carved plates will be provided, if you just wish to print.
